Far Eastern Nepal

Trekking goals in
eastern Nepal includes an eastern
approach to Everest, the remote
base cam of Makalu, and the are
near Kanchenjnga. There is endless
variety in this part of the country.
Most ethnic groups groups are
represented and many villages
such as Dhankuta, Khadbari and
Bhjpur are large and clean. The
area has hot rice growing districts
and also encompasses cooler tea
growing region of Ilam. The heavily
populated middle hills are gouged
by the mighty Arun Kosi, which
is flanked by the massifs of Kanchenjunga
and Makalu.
East Nepal's rich
culture, flourishing bird life,
lush forests, and rugged mountain
landscape add up to an ideal yet
vastly under utilized trekking
destination. There are no apple
pie shops in this area, but some
delicious locally brewed treats
to sample. The Rai and Bhotia
cultures practice ancient religions
based on nature - worship, and
uphold traditional handicraft
skills evident in their clothes,
art, and household crafts.
