This trek takes the route to Thame village west of Namche Bazaar and follows the Bhote Koshi River valley. The trail contours around a hill through forests and the settlements of Phurte, Thamo and Somde until making a steep descent to a bridge over the Bhote Koshi from where a sharp climb along a stream takes us to Thame. Thame lies in a large valley with great views of the snowy peaks. The picturesque Thame monastery lies above the main settlement and overlooks the valley. You have the option of climbing about 150 m up a steep trail to explore the monastery and its surroundings. This trek, also known as the 3 cols trek, can be fairly challenging as it traverses through three high passes all of which are over 5,000 m in altitude. One, therefore, needs to be in reasonably good shape. However, the trek is worth undertaking as it is lesser trodden and, therefore, the chances are that you will be running into a lesser number of other trekkers. The scenery is superb all the way and the mountain vistas, especially from Gokyo Ri, is simply exquisite.
