This is a magnificent trek that covers two different river valleys. The route goes right around the Annapurna massif, crossing Thorong La pass (5,416 m), the highest point on this trek. The trek begins at Besisahar in the Marshyangdi river valley after a drive of about seven hours from Kathmandu and ends in the Kali Gandaki river valley. The fascinating village life complemented by the beautiful mountain scenery will keep us enthralled day in and day out throughout the trek. We will be passing through Chame, the administrative headquarters of Manang district; Pisang, which marks the beginning of the upper portion of Manang district; and the plateau of Manang village. Manang village has a dramatic setting with the summits of Annapurna and Gangapurna seemingly at touching distance. It’s necessary to spend an extra day at Manang acclimatizing to the higher altitudes that we will be encountering as we approach Thorung La. The mountain views from the pass are outstanding. We will also get to visit the famous pagoda-style Muktinath temple and other holy shrines in the area, a popular pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists.
A fairly challenging trek, which requires climbing up and down steep mountain gradients, this trek can be done anytime of the year except during the rainy season and winter, when the Thorong pass gets blocked by snow.
