“In the hundred ages of the gods, I could not tell thee of the glories of the Himalaya. As the dew is dried up by the morning sun, so are the sins of mankind by the sight of the Himalaya.”
- Ancient Hindu Text
The Nepal Himalaya extends east to west and forms a natural border with the Autonomous Region of Tibet in China to the north. It consists of over 1,310 magnificent peaks that levitate over 6,000 m in height. Boasting eight out of the world’s fourteen peaks that are higher than 8,000 m, with Mt. Everest (8,848 m) standing the tallest, the Nepal Himalaya is also known as the rooftop of the world. These daunting mountain peaks have made Nepal famous throughout the world and lured many people – young and the not-so-young – from all parts of the globe not only to admire them from near or afar, but also test their mettle by trying to conquer these giant hulks of rock and snow.
When Nepal opened its gates to foreign travelers in 1950 and especially in the wake of the conquest of Mt. Everest in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgey Sherpa, the first ever human beings to set foot on the highest peak on the planet, the Himalaya became an attraction for hordes of mountaineers from all over the world. Sherpas, the sturdy ethnic inhabitants of the Everest region, became indispensable as guides for trekking and mountaineering expeditions in the Himalaya.
Today hundreds of thousands of people come to experience the Nepal Himalaya. Some go one step further to try and scale one of the 326 peaks open for mountaineering.
Cho-Oyu Trekking has nearly two decades of experience in organizing full scale mountaineering expeditions in the Himalaya, including those on all 8000+ m peaks of the country. Its list of clientele include the who’s who in the international mountaineering circle like Silvio Mondinelli; Simone Moro of Italy; Mrs. Manuela Di Centa, the first Italian woman to summit Mt. Everest; Benedikte Kashkashveli, mountaineer and President of the Georgian Mountaineering Association; the late Benoit Chamoux of France; the late Anatoli Bukrev of Kazakhstan; and many other well known personalities. The likes of Dr. Igor Gamov, inventor of the gamov bag; and Agostino Da Polenza, Chairman and head of Mountain Equip, are good friends and repeat guests of Cho-Oyu.

We operate regular small scale expeditions to large scale scientific expeditions as well as “speed climbing” expeditions. Our climbing crew includes well experienced Sherpas who have summitted Mt. Everest and other 8,000-m peaks several times. They are graduates of Advanced Mountaineering and Rescue Training, and are highly competent in using climbing gear. An affable lot, they are also adept at handling all the dangers that come with mountain climbing. Safety is one of our foremost concerns.
We arrange all the necessary permits and logistics for climbing any Himalayan peak open for climbing in Nepal, Tibet, Sikkim and Bhutan.
