Fly to Kathmandu to Paro and visit the ruined fortress of Drugyel dzong which still attracts visitors due to the strategic location of the fort in Paro. Starting at Punakha, this challenging trek involves three days of climbing the steep gorge leading up to Laya before crossing the mighty pass, Karakachu La, to enter Lunana proper. After walking seven days through breathtaking landscape, you will cross Gophu La and reach the fertile valleys of Bhumthang situated to the south of Gangkar Puensum, one of the highest unclimbed peaks on earth.
