Cho-Oyu Trekking Pvt. Ltd. is a government registered, Kathmandu based adventure tour operator registered with the Ministry of Industry on May 17, 1988 and with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation of Nepal on May 24, 1988 (License No. 92/045). It specializes in providing expert arrangements and logistic support for all types of adventure travel throughout the Himalaya, including treks ranging from one to thirty days’ duration to short-duration “trekking peak” climbs to full-scale mountaineering expeditions. It also organizes cultural and study tours as well as rafting, bird watching and wildlife safaris trips.
When it comes to trekking, each of Cho-Oyu’s treks is custom designed with unique features like off-the–beaten-track extensions, an overnight stay or a meal in a typical village home, visits to conservation project sites, participation in local festivals, or even receiving personal blessings from a high lama (Buddhist priest). The itineraries and the programs are tailor made to suit the clients’ time schedule, ability and interest, and even take into consideration last minute changes that might be brought about by weather conditions or any other unanticipated reason. The company also makes hotel and airline reservations and handles all ground transportation arrangements as well.
With the quality of service that it provides, Cho-Oyu has the distinction of having many loyal and repeat customers to add to its repertoire. The company is also the sole facilitator and operator in providing logistic support to the International Scientific Research Project (Everest/ K2 CNR Project for Scientific and Technological Research in the Himalaya and Karakoram known as Lobuche High Altitude Pyramid). Agostino Da Polenza, Chairman and head of Mountain Equip, is also involved in this project.

Besides Nepal, an exotic getaway for those with a penchant for travel to experience nature, culture and adventure at their best, we also offer you tour/trek programs in Tibet and Bhutan as well as in the Indian Himalayan realms of Sikkim, Darjeeling and Ladakh, which are all equally fascinating destinations in their own right.

Nima Nuru Sherpa, proprietor, Managing Director and team leader of Cho-Oyu Trekking, not only has an extensive experience of over 18 years in the tourism industry, but is equally active in promoting the tourism sector of Nepal in particular and that of the South Asian region in general. He has served as the Vice President of the Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN) and as a Central Executive Board Member of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). Nima has a highly dedicated commitment to promote responsible tourism by providing top quality service through his organization.
Nima’s extensive field experience, complemented by a well-developed skill, assures that every trek, expedition and venture is planned in detail and executed accordingly from start to finish. He has trekked most of the routes personally and is not only familiar with the villages en route but also knows the villagers personally.
Nima has considerable experience in catering to the needs of foreigner nationals from different parts of the globe as well, and is himself widely traveled. Cho-Oyu hosts groups from throughout Europe, North and South America as well as South and Southeast Asia.
Nima also takes his social obligations seriously. He is a person who is genuinely concerned about helping underprivileged people and has been endeavoring to fulfill his social responsibility through “Friends of Nepal”, a non-profit, non-governmental organization, of which he is the President. Under his leadership and guidance, the organization raises charity from visitors and other donors for essential infrastructure development such as hospital buildings, schools, orphanages and other projects that directly benefit the poor, especially in those regions where he operates his treks. Construction of the Shree Himalaya Primary School in Namche, the Panchakanya Higher Secondary School in Shydul, Dhading and the Highway Community Hospital in Malekhu, and providing ongoing support to all the three projects as well as granting scholarships to some 26 poor students to study in boarding schools in Kathmandu are but a few of his achievements toward this end. He intends to continue supporting such social causes and give back something to the people of his community as well as those outside his community.

The Cho-Oyu team, consisting of office staff, guides, cooks, support crew and porters, are well looked after; the reason why they have been loyal to the company for so many years. Most of the staff members at Cho-Oyu have been with the company ever since its establishment and, therefore, carry a lot of experience in the tourism business under their belts. Our guides speak English, French, Spanish and German, and have undergone basic climbing technique, first aid and eco friendly trekking practice trainings. All members of the team share a deep and special concern regarding the environmental impacts of mountain tourism and see to it that they adhere strictly to eco tourism/trekking practices. Additionally, all field personnel of the Cho-Oyu team are insured against injuries and/or other unforeseen incidents that may occur during the course of carrying out their duties. They are also supplied with adequate and proper warm clothes and safety gear.
